This event was all about equipping emerging professionals with the skills for the future, with insight from different disciplines within the water market.
Some key insights from the Panel:
• Queensland’s water sector faces a $35–$45 billion pipeline of work over the next 20–30 years, spanning dam upgrades, desalination plants, and bulk water transport projects, ensuring long-term industry growth.
• Around 75–80% of the state budget is committed to health and education, leaving limited room for major water infrastructure funding. As a result, private investment and innovative delivery models will be crucial to get projects moving efficiently.
• Delivering large, multi-disciplinary projects often depends on balancing different generations, expertise levels, and working styles across multiple locations. Getting the right mix of people is really critical.
• The sector currently operates in fragmented silos, with 77 councils and several bulk water authorities managing services independently. Collaboration and integrated planning across agencies and regions are essential to improve efficiency and address skills and resource gaps.
